Oh yes. This is a thing that is happening.
YES, YES YOU WOULD.
So what’s the big idea, Leigh, is what you would like to know. And the big idea is this: with the Wheel of Time Reread winding down and the Read of Ice and Fire on indeterminate hold, it was thought that I needed another project to keep me occupied here on good ol’ Tor.com.
And The Powers That Be said to me, well, we’ve really forever been wanting to do your basic epic nostalgia science fiction/fantasy rewatch of the films of our Yoot, are you interested?
And I was like, HELLS TO THE YES, because (a) I am not an idiot, and also (b) the SF/F films of my/our Yoot are filled to the brim with commentable material, of both hilarious and serious nature, which I feel like we can all have an enormous amount of fun with together.
Basically this is going to be a scream from start to finish, and I have a whole list of films from the late-ish ’70s to the mid-ish ’90s on tap, and I can’t even tell y’all how excited I am to start it.
Just so you know, this is all a bit experimental in nature; we’re going to see how it goes and adjust accordingly. But for now the thought is that I will most likely be doing a post every other week; I will always let you know in the previous post what the next film or films to be covered will be.
So! Please do join me next Thursday, June 9th, for the inaugural post in my new series of TOTAL AWESOME, in which I, assisted by my partners in crime (i.e. Sister Liz and Sister Kate) will be watching and commenting on our first Film of Great Nostalgia: that inestimable fantasy classic of 1988, Willow.
Val Kilmer! Stupid Dykeenies! PIGS! YOU’RE ALL PIGS! SNOOOORRT-SNORT!
You guys. YOU GUYS. This is going to be so great. This I Foretell. See you there!
Leigh Butler is a writer and blogger who is officially old enough in body to legitimately claim a nostalgia factor, but young enough at heart to laugh about it. She has previously authored the Wheel of Time Reread and the Read of Ice and Fire for Tor.com, and is rather looking forward to investigating things which aren’t 900-page doorstopper epic fantasy tomes for once, you know?
